About us:

Atelier Heart in Hard consists of mother Paula and daughter Pauline Ann. Since the 90's we have been sewing, knitting and crocheting together as a hobby. Pauline sees a beautiful design on pinterest, then Paula draws it out and adds her own interpretation and with some adjustments from Pauline we create the simple but elegant patterns in our slow fashion atelier. We have shared the love for fashion for years, can spend hours together looking for the right fabric on the fabricmarkets and we complement each other in taste. Paula learned sewing from her mother, followed a fashion education and patiently passed on all that knowledge to her daughter. After completing her Bachelor in Marketing Communications, Pauline worked for 7 years for an international interior design agency in Amsterdam where she came into daily contact with fabrics and design. We are always on the lookout for new styles and learn as we go along, but we don't follow trends. We like to stay in close contact with our own style that tends towards Retro Chic with Scandinavian influences. 

Atelier Heart In Hard 

After Pauline quit her job in Amsterdam to travel the world with her husband as an expat, she started a business in the foldable shoppers called 70's BAG that we still sell in our webshop. She created and produced 70's BAGs for Heineken and various retail chains from the United States, but her dream of one day starting a sewing studio with a store kept buzzing in her head. When Pauline finally became a mother to Nova Ann and Falco after years of battle with infertility, she decided to fully focus on making her dream come true and started her sewing atelier in Mexico City. The store was online and will remain online for as long as Pauline and her family are still living as expats in Nairobi Kenya. Once they settle back in the Netherlands or the United States the atelier will get its own retail space. 

How do we work?

We produce everything in house. Pauline works in her atelier at home in Nairobi Kenya and Paula works from home in Breda, The Netherlands. We work as follow:

Every 8 weeks we open our reservationlist where the first 20 people can place their custom order.

When you are on the list we are in close contact with you for your personal choice of fabric, size and other wishes.

You can choose your model and pattern here on the website under the tab " Patterns & Models"

You can choose your fabric out of more than 50 fabrics via instagram page @fabrics.heartinhard 

We make everything by hand and completely customize our patterns to your size, length and wishes.

Please Note

Pauline & Paula realize that they are lucky enough that their hobby became their business. This joyful fact does not make them grand business ladies. Please be patient when they do not respond right away. Please don't think we have a standard return policy like H&M or Zara. We make everything custom for you, so as long as the product is good in size and quality, the product can not be returned over a dislike of colour or a partner who happens to not like the product we custom made for you.

Sometimes we also create our own designs and these items are uploaded and sold in our webshop.
